Autism Identification Card for Law Enforcement
At a recent training with law enforcement, we discussed the need for police or sheriffs to be able to identify and accommodate people with autism. They voiced that a physical card, which can be presented to the police by the individual with autism, would help them adjust their responses appropriately.
If you are an autistic parent or individual, there is always a fear police will misinterpret autistic behaviors as avoidance, intoxication, you hiding something, or a mental illness. This card tells police your information, and on the back has suggestions for law enforcement. Keep this card with you and present to police if you ever come in contact.
As an example I attached my personal card alongside the blank template.
